Is it a 10-hour retreat
or a 10-hour party?
Yes, you’ll do plenty of sitting and walking. But at the eighth annual CIMC Sit-a-thon, you’ll also participate in a tea ceremony; listen to poetry; do a little chanting; socialize with CIMC teachers, staff, residents and other community members; enjoy an array of delicacies donated by local restaurants and grocers…and more! So is it a retreat or a party? Come decide for yourself. The day begins with breakfast at 9AM and goes straight through until 7PM. Whatever you call it, it’s a great way to deepen your practice, support CIMC, and have some fun, all at the same time. And signing up is easy as 1-2-3:
1. STEP ONE.
Pick up a CIMC Sit-a-thon sponsor form. They’re available at the Center, or download or print it here.
2. STEP TWO.
Get sponsors. OK, maybe this part isn’t quite so easy. But it doesn’t have to be so difficult either. If you’re shy about asking in person, try sending an email to your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Here are some sample emails. You might be surprised at how many are willing to support you. Any pledge amount is welcome, but the suggested minimum is $100, which you can raise by having just 10 people sponsor you for just $1 an hour. Of course, some sponsors may want to pledge more. And you’re also welcome to sponsor yourself. Our goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of the event. (If you’d like some more specific suggestions about how to approach sponsors, please call the office.)
3. STEP THREE.
Join us on Saturday, October 18. And get ready to enjoy the day. We encourage you to attend the entire Sit-a-thon but you may join us for part of the day if you can’t stay for the whole 10 hours.
